A vacant house was destroyed on West Union Street in Magnolia on Saturday afternoon due to a house fire.

Fire chief Greg Pinner has stated that the house is owned by Lonnie Jackson. The house has been vacant for years, according to readers of the Magnolia Reporter.

Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene of the fire. One of the engines was attached to a fire hydrant on Walnut street and used its water cannon and one line to fight the fire. The other engine used one line to protect the neighboring house that was also seared from the flames. The adjacent home is owned by Mary Caldwell.

The second truck was replaced by a brush truck by the Magnolia Fire Department. Also dispatched, was the new city-county rescue truck. A Columbia County Ambulance service truck was also on standby.

Firefighters were able to combat the flames and save a now fire-damaged garage on the property. After extinguishing the flames in the surrounding pecan trees on the property, the remaining blaze was left to burn itself out.
