Fans Start Petition to Keep James Corden out of Wicked Adaptation
"Wicked" fans started a petition to keep James Corden out of the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical. Immediately after Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were announced to play the lead roles, Glinda and Elphaba, fans were quick to demand that James Corden "not go near" the film.
I have nothing against James Corden as a person; however, I am not a fan of him participating in "Wicked." I saw "Wicked" for the first time in Little Rock when I was eight years old, and since then, I have been a huge fan. There have been rumors of an adaptation for years with little to no evidence until now, and "Wicked" fans, including myself, want the movie to be as perfect as possible.
I have seen Corden perform in the movie adaptation of "Into the Woods." His performance in "Into the Woods" was quite good; however, his work lately has not been impressive. Reviews of his performances in "Cats" and the new "Cinderella" movie have been mostly negative, and I would somewhat agree from what I have seen.
I think James Corden is a fantastic singer and host, but there is no need for him to be in "Wicked." There isn't a character that would work for him, and I think putting him in the film will do the adaptation more harm than good. I would like to see the film bring in some broadway actors and new names. Again, I like James Corden's "Late Late Show," and I have been a fan for some time, but I do not think he should be in the adaptation.
